Good Tuesday Afternoon all,

I am wondering if the very low output (30 ohms) of a reel to reel playback head is a detriment to a strong enough signal to drive a pre/power amp? It seems to me this is a very low output level for a playback head. I would love to find out as much as I can on the topic of playback tape head output levels. Any referrals would be appreciated. Thanks all.

Jazzbo,

The resistance (not impedance) of the Bogen PB head in my MCI is 50 ohms. Works fine with my preamp in the 50dB gain position.
