This is a list of current commercially pre-recorded reel tapes available. (A tape by "The Shins" has sold out.) Elusive Disc is the appointed distributor of Groove Note Records. Various formats (IEC/NAB), 1/4" or 1/2" tape width, and 2 track or 4 track may be available in some cases.

Thanks, Les. I've bought from Opus3, Tape Project (charter subscriber), UltraAnalogue and Yarlung. Thanks for the info on the others. Does Quinton in Germany still produce R2R? I bought their Sabaina Hank album back in 2009.

Hi Larry!
My error. Haste makes waste. I was on the sites checking for new data and neglected to paste this into the list. I have added it. I have left off resellers such as United Home Audio and I think there is an Italian dealer who sells the Quinton tapes. Thanks for the question.

Are there still any Groove Note titles available? I couldn't find anything at the Elusive Disc website

I haven't been able to get any tapes. Think most GN tapes have gone to Asia AFAIK. They're not many in a run as Bernie makes them one at a time.

Wow, wow, wow. Series three is out with four more new tape releases from Yarlung Records including a brand new recording from my 2013 PFO Product of the Year award winning percussion group Smoke and Mirrors. Plus another release from Latin Grammy award winning artist Antonio Lysy!

Even if you don't subscribe to the tape format, do check out their recordings available on CD, hi-Rez download or LP.

And a big shout out to Arian Jansen of Sonorus for supporting this worthwhile endeavor!!!

I just received 9 albums from Volker Lange of Lutz Precision in Europe. They are all 2 tape albums (15ips 2 track CCIR EQ) and include the set of 6 Oscar Peterson Exclusively for my Friends albums and the 3 classical albums they have issued (Marimba, Trumpet Concerto and Bernstein/Gershwin). Will be listening to them the next few days. I'll also be ordering Ed Pong's new UltraAnalogue albums.

I just picked up Suryodaya from Yarlung Records (in addition to Dialoghi that I reviewed a while back for PFO). Dialoghi sounds even better than I thought (and mentioned about in my review) through the Magicos and I've never heard a cello sound so real.

But the really amazing recording is Suryodaya with Robert Gupta (playing Milstein's Strad) and cousin Badal Roy (who played with Ornette Coleman and Miles Davis). "Calcutta Sunrise" featuring a tabla solo by Roy is absolutely mind blowing.

+1 That opening whack on Calcutta Sunrise the first time you hear it will cause the hair on the back of your neck stand up as well as make you jump in your seat the way it just comes out of the blackness. There are also some really deep fundamentals that roll across the listening room floor.

What I found amazing is how the tabla literally resonates and "sings" in his hands. The tonal complexity is simply breathtaking.

If you ever get a chance, try and listen to 'Making Music' by Zakir Hussain. He is a great tabla virtuoso and his Dad was bestowed the 'Pundit' (master)title. Its on the ECM label. Highly recommended. I am unsure about its avaialability but have it on LP and CD.

The Suryodaya is very well recorded and has captured a fabulous life like sound of the tabla.
