I have one of these on my Music Hall. It's a low output unit.

They are available in low or high output configuration, as everyone knows.

What I wonder is what are the advantages and disadvantages of each? Why buy a low output that needs a preamp when a high output, at the same price, doesn't need one?

A galaxy far far away
My best guess is for people who own preamps that are only set up for MM or MC. I'm also a Music Hall owner, I have a MMF-9.1. What Music Hall table are you using?

Low output cartridges typically have far less wire on their coils than high output cartridges thus the coils have a lower mass and what people claim is the ability to react much faster in the groove. With a MC cartridge, the stylus is wagging the coils and cutting magnetic lines of flux from the fixed magnets. Less wire on the coil attached to the stylus means less mass.

Good answer there. Thanks very much!

I have a MMF-9.1 also. Seems to be pretty much all I need.
