Replying to this on the hope for revival and more recommendations. Late to the party but am having a blast discovering new music. I will probably end up buying most of the recommendations..

In the meantime, I am currently listening to Buena Vista Social Club - Live at Carnegie Hall.

Like the music and sounds good to me.

Oh my lord....

After BVSC, I cued up Keith Jarrett - The Koln Concert. A recent acquisition on LP along with BVSC.

Wow!!! I never knew I would enjoy a recording with just one instrument being played.

Maybe it is the Lagavulin 16 that I am enjoying this evening.

Carmen

That is one of Carmen McRae's finests albums.https://img.discogs.com/9HXQS71-XrEvVdUuEBk_qSH5UrM=/fit-in/300x300/filters:strip_icc():format(jpeg):mode_rgb():qualit y(40)/discogs-images/R-2635940-1338015554-3099.jpeg.jpgCarmen was best heard live.

Another impressively well recorded live album is the ''Carmen Gomes Sings the Blues'' download, from name sake Carmen Gomes. She also seems to thrive while in front of an audience.
I think this will turn out to be a modern classic.
Recorded in DXD and available in DSD 256 and 128 and lower flac formats as well as the 352 DXD master, this is a modern recording with an old school vibe.
Even the youtube video version sounds surprisingly good:

Highly recommended.

That should be interesting.

My brother bought CD's direct from Carmen Gomes. He contacted her via her website; http://www.carmengomes.com/
He bought all her Sound Liaison albums on CD and also a couple made before her Sound Liaison recordings.
I was impressed by the 'Dreams'' album and I took the liberty to load it into my hi-res player. It is with piano instead of guitar.

I will repeat myself in favor of this excellent new album download; the special offer on the excellent Carmen Gomes DXD recording ends this weekend. It is 30% off.

I picked up a copy of this at "Disco D'Oro" (a great record store) in Bologna, Italy a few weeks back, paid €3 for a mint Verve CD copy and it is absolutely fantastic.

Many of the recording from the Vanguard are really very enjoyable, dont know who oversaw the process but i love it..

Highly recommended.
What I really like about live recordings is that I find that the sound somehow is more coherent. On modern studio recordings it sounds as if the instruments are in completely different rooms, which oftentimes they are.
Carmen McRae's best albums where all live.
And the Sound Liaison approach, evident on the impressive Carmen Gomes DXD recording, is in my opinion prove that with less separation the sound somehow improves.
On the picture from the recording I see one small screen between the drums and the double bass.
And on all those great McRae recordings there probably was none at all.

+1

Sound Liaison has just released the 2nd download in the new ''my favorite album'' series recorded in DXD.
Same kind of SQ as the Carmen Gomes album and superb playing by the Paul Berner Band.
I find the liner notes befitting the music:
The great saxophonist Ben Webster wanted to know the words for every ballad he played.
If he could not remember the words he would not play the song.
Paul Berner Band have taken Ben’s rule to heart.
These Lennon & McCartney songs are being sung without words but the outstanding musicianship
of these musicians ensures that every word is heard.
