I am a huge Annie Lennox fan and ordered her "The Annie Lennox Collection" on vinyl from Amazon UK some time ago. I received the album (which wasn't sealed - a common practice apparently for UK vinyl) and played it. I played it again, and then again, but not because I was happy with it. For some strange reason the LP would start distorting (though not mistrack) whenever it reached about halfway through. And I mean distort! It was unbearable. I played other vinyl and never had this happen so I know it wasn't the setup of my TT. Side 2 of disc 1 and Side 4 of disc 2 are the major culptits. I do not understand why this is so.

Has anyone had this experience with other LP's? It's the very first time this has happened with an album for me.

Does it distort for the remainder of the side or just for a moment? I have a few which distort for a short interval (a second or so) but not more.

I remember returning vinyl in the old days.

Good luck with this.

FYI: Her ex. Dave Stewart/ Eurythmics was just on CBC's "The Hour" program. If you live in Canada you may be able to view it on-line. His examples of creativity were, creative and entertaining.

Extreme groove wear perhaps? Maybe the middle has the favorite songs of the previous owner. I have a few pre-owned LPs where specific tracks were worn to the bone while the rest of the LPs were close to pristine.

Once the distortion starts it gets worse. Strange thing though. It doesn't happen at the same time interval each time. It varies, but it's the only LP I have that does this.

It's a new release. No previous owners.

I'm stumped then John.

I think it's just a bad pressing....like off-centre for some reason. Really really weird.

I've been playing vinyl all morning and everything is fine. Put Annie on once more and same thing.....a lemon I think, but I'm hesitant to order another copy.

Hi John,

At this point, I would contact Amazon UK and let them know the problem. I would then try to exchange the copy for another. I know ultimately you will lose money on the shipping, but, you may well find that you just have a bad pressing. Now, if all the pressings are bad, then the label needs to be contacted.

Hi Rich,

It was like 6 or so months ago that I purchased this, so I don't know if that will work. I'll give it a shot though!

I'd cut my losses and bite the bullet and just buy a new one

I think that's a bad pressing too, though I have never encountered any new LPs that had this problem. If anyone have this LP and it plays perfect, that is a sure sign that yours was a factory defect, John.
