Since I'm using a spinner device, I can clean my records without any physical contact on the vinyl surface.
It's just spraying water onto the vinyl surface while it is being spun at high speed.
The drying process is entirely contactless.
The moisture on the vinyl surface is expelled by the centrifugal force generated by the record being spun at high speed.

Something I've noticed for nearly a year now:

Different types of water touching the vinyl surface last will imbue the vinyl record with their own different sonic signatures.

It doesn't matter if I'm using the ELP or a conventional needle-based turntable, the different sonic signatures of different type of water is still easily discernible.

This shouldn't come as a surprise - since it is well known that the last physical material that touches the vinyl surface will also leaves a sonic signature onto the vinyl record....

interesting

i am not sure that its centrifugal force

actually the record spinning is exerting centripetal force

the centrifugal force hypothetically is acting on the thing making the record spin

i think if you watch closely the water droplets come off the tangent of the record as it spins in the same direction and are a continuation
of the spinning records angular momentum applied to the water droplets as they lose cohesion with record surface ....

My first post here. I've been drooling over getting one of these for a few years and it looks like it might finally become a reality early next year. I would like to get some feedback from other ELPJ owners on their experience owning one.
My intention is to transfer to digital a large "wall" of vinyl, mostly 12" singles onto digital. I am excited by the prospect of no sibilance, vinyl surface noise and reduced effects of scratches. Are these expectations realistic? How does the ELPJ handle records with hair-like scratches?
What I'd like is to hear some "raw rips" from this machine. I did get to play some of my own records on one in Sydney in 2012, and my impressions were that the sound was "clinically clean". Unfortunately, the owner of the machine in Sydney was not able to set up a line-out for me to make a digital recording for later evaluation. I did notice that Jerome had a 12" of China Crisis' Animalistic - that 11-minute mix on the B-side would be a fantastic test because of the dynamic range in the track.

I would be interested in hearing raw comparison samples of the same record played on a needledrop and with the laser. About half a dozen samples would be great with a wide range of surface quality and sound dynamics.

Thanks.

If you contact ELP they can send you a demo cd which will answer some of your questions.I did a A/B with my Clearaudio Innovation and sound wise there was little difference.Don,t expect super quiet and invest in a KLaudio record cleaning machine other wise dust = pops.

Thanks for the quick response! I already have the ELP reference disc. What I'd like to hear is something from my own collection so I can compare something I am familar with. I referenced the China Crisis record because I own a copy of that one myself...

I can get it to sound very quiet on 95% of my records that I've played through the ELP so far.
With just Art Du Sohn and plenty of rinsing.

Some records (a couple of Telarc classical, and the Michael Newman Sheffield guitar LP) that are noisy I suspect have dirt embedded too deep. I think I just need to find cleaner copies.

A few pop records that are noisy are quiet from the 2nd or 3rd track onwards.
Playing it on the gyro SE / sme v / lyra skala / pass lab Ono combination the level of noise are almost similar.
So, I am really not bothered about the noise at all playing through the ELP.

And I use a spinning machine to dry the records (throwing out the water using centrifugal force) instead of the Loricraft PRC3 which I also own. Using this "contactless" drying method avoid the problem of the records attaining a type of static (due to the silk thread rubbing against the surface of the vinyl) that can affect imaging shift.

If ever the cleaned records are placed back into sleeves, then they need to be cleaned again before playing on the ELP.
so I have a couple of LP holder rack that I keep the naked cleaned LPs for heavy rotation plays.

The art du Sohn solution seems to have very good anti static properties.
Records cleaned using this solution tend not to attract dust even if I leave the records naked on the rack for weeks, even months.
I ultrasonically clean my LPs and they are nice and quite on my ELP. I always put the LPs into virgin poly bags and they remain clean for a long time. Only if I play it on a turntable do I have to re-clean the discs. The best sound is from vinyl that has never seen a stylus!

For some strange reasons, my ELP can't read this record.

There is continuous sound dropout at the right channel.
Most of the time it is just hiss.
When playing the B side, the player just got hanged.
I need to power down and restart in order to retrieve the disc.

I also tried this record at two friends' systems, both who own a ELP themselves.
Same problems.

What gives?
You did a calibration with the calibration disc? Some records are so crap they can't be read properly. We know coloured discs won't read. I do have the odd record which really will only play on a stylus option. Also heavily compressed and dense grooves can be tricky - like a 30 minute LP.
I'm very happy with the ELP. I hear the same from my other 2 friends.
Personally I cannot imagine myself playing with a needle based turntable anymore whenever I'm home.
It leaves my twice-as-expensive EMM Lab combo lying in the dirt when comparing with the same recordings.

Yes it is true the ELP doesn't play colored vinyl.
But according to Jeremy Kipnis, reviewer at positive feedback, he told me on Facebook publicly, that his machine does (after some modifications by ELP)
How true is that I have yet to personally verified this - so I'm reserving my comments until then.
Jeremy was either mistaken or fibbing because I bought his ELP turntable and it certainly doesn't play coloured vinyl.

... finally overcame the inertia to change the impedance from 100ohms to 47k ohm on the pass lab Ono phono stage , and the sound changed appreciably.

In particular, the sound is now fuller bodied, there's more immediate presence, timbre of instruments become more natural and the somewhat "whitish" flavor of the sound was removed.

I'm not going to listen to critically.
Just enjoying whatever music I suddenly have a craving for.

china crisis - black man ray - 12" single

alison moyet - that 'ole devil called love - 12" single
I went to school with the keyboards player for China Crisis.
