Seems like Accuphase is huge in Japan but dead in US and Europe. Is Accuphase only for Asian tastes, or just poorly marketed?

Count me in!

One of the best Digital IMHO

I have had CDPs, DACs and Integrated amps... an A60 is in my short list as well.

Excellent gear. Poorly marketed in the US. They should do a Luxman and offer finishes other than Champagne.

I cant say they are big in Sweden but they do have a excellent reputation and are fairly common. I used to have a amplifier from them but sold it when I was hooked by the 5.1 flu in the late nineties. I love the gear, very high quality and good sounding.

I think the problem with Accuphase is they cost more in the U.S. than Japan. I think if they were priced more competively they would sell better in the states. They have always made a great product.

There ya go! Champagne and Gold are hugely popular in Asia but in the US and Europe are seen as a bit dated with the exception perhaps of C-J.

the price of Accuphase outside of Japan is a joke.

Accuphase DP-700 - New Retail Price: US$26,000.00

Japan retail price - YEN 924,800 is around US $ 12,000

If the price disparities are that wide, I wonder why they export their product here in the first place?

I have found some Accuphase owners that import directly from Japan and use an SDT for voltage conversion, but I am not sure how to fix the 50Hz to 60Hz convertion.

I have compared recently Accuphase C-2810 preamp and DP-800/DC-801 digital front end. Well, ... ARC REF5SE made a joke out of C-2810, big one ! Next MSB UMT / Diamond DAC just put top Accuphase digital to shame, eternal one !

Believe me, I have never ever heard such a difference in high end - first there were strange sounds, then beautiful music came along ...

For me, Accuphase is far, far away from the thruth. No matter the cost.

The Accuphase gear I've seen all came in multiple voltages (100/115/220/240V), and could be switched easily. I don't even remember if soldering was required, probably not.

I've had an E-308 integrated, and it was very good, very smooth sounding, and far more powerful than the specs claimed.

I only agree on the fact that Accuphase gear does have a house-sound, I like their golden/suave touch that, at least to me, is far from becoming strange - saying that, and for their asking price, they face stiff competition lime AR, CJ and EAR to name a few.

In Germany they have a good reputation. I heard the 3810 and the big A200 Monos against the Burmesters 077 and 909 . For me the Burmesters are much better. The Price is compaired to Japan a Joke.

I have been a happy Accuphase user for many years now. In Denmark, like the rest of Europe and the US, prices are very high. In Europe the German distributor PIA dictates the prices quite brutally. Still, Germany must be the second-most active Accuphase market in world - unless the Chinese have that base covered by now.

I have bought all of my gear second hand, where bargains always await the patient. If the second-hand route is for you, I recommend that you use Hifishark.com to track down the gear - they have a nice section dedicated to the Accuphase brand: Accuphase on Hifishark.com.
