I know, this is an actual controversial debate, I just acquired a Ridge Street Audio Design Alethias (hope arrive soon). I'm a little skeptical about the benefit, but I want to try.
I'd love to have your comments since (and if) you have tried to "upgrade" usb cable.

Best Regards,

Paolo

dear all thank's for your replays.
I just received my Ridge Street Audio Design Alethias. I am astonished on how this USB cable can improve the natural sense of the music on my system. Clearly, it is not like night and day, but is more than subtle. I will post here some comments after few days of test.
Please, I will appreciate your comments on which kind of differences you have heard, due to USB cable replacement.

Notes: my DAC does not use USB power, and the USB power is turned off at my server. Additionally, my server has a very low noise SOtM USB output card, powered by a dedicated shunt regulated super low noise power supply.
I have not tested a lot of USB cables, but the Nordost was defintely better than the Wireworld Starlight in my set up. The Nordost offered a more precise definition of leading edge transients, and tone, on really good recordings. The difference was most noticeable on a 24/192 download of Beethoven String Quartets from 2L. My feeling regarding USB cables (in my system noise is likely not a big problem for the USB cable to deal with) is that speed/bandwidth of the cable is the most important factor: so that the cable can transmit squarewaves as close to "perfect" as possible. Nordost's design, with an air dialectric makes sense in this context. And I also like that the Nordost cable is made in the US.

here after weeks.
I was really skeptical about the influence of USB cable.
In my system the Ridge Street Audio Design Alethias added a more textured and rich sound. I have to admit which is not subtle. Bass are plentiful on body, with a detailed control of extension.
Overall soundstage is more real. The sound is natural, true. The third dimention, which was already deep with BADA-Spectral-Eidolon combo, is further increased.
This is noticiable with all files (ripped from CD's or HiRez natively).
Voice are more modulated and thick.
Feeling that can sum it all up is the naturalness of musical instruments and orchestral consistency.

The USB 3.0 active SE. I hope it works better than the Purist I am using now. I bought it without testing. I trust as all my IC and speaker cables are SR.
