Are the main towers in the same footprint as the MM3's

the MM7 main towers are the same 30 inch length as the MM3's, although they are only 15 inches wide verses the 18 inches wide of the MM3's.

the bass towers of the MM7's are also 30 inches long, and they are the same 18 inches wide as the MM3's.

Are the main towers in the same footprint as the MM3's

Steve,

re-reading your question i might have initiially missed your point. i did move the MM7 main towers back 8 inches and in 2 and 1/2 inches (on each side) as a starting point compared to the position of the MM3's.

so instead of 115 inches tweeter to tweeter it's 110 inches tweeter to tweeter. this is only a starting point so it could change. my reasons are twofold; i had been thinking that i wanted to sit a bit closer to the main towers than i had sat from the MM3's, in fact when i sold the MM3's i had been thinking of moving closer to those too. just to get more immediacy, involvement and detail. second, to allow for more flexiblity for placement of the sub towers when they come.

i moved them back 8 inches to allow for the bass towers to be able to be arc'd more forward. the bass towers will be outside the main towers and ideally they will be on the same arc as the main towers to my ears for optimal wave launch integration. therefore the bass towers (particularly the front outside corner) will be forward of the main towers.

the front baffle of the main towers is still 9 feet into the room, comapred to 9 feet, 8 inches before. so there is lots of room for adjustments.

Near Atlanta, GA but not too near!
I've always loved the aesthetics of his room and I'm sure it sounds great as well. Bose 901's would probably sound good in that room with his electronics (or not !).

I'm also a huge fan of the cosmetics of the MM3 and now the MM7. Never heard either but this room would be the place to hear them.

Very very nice!!!

Looking great Mike. How many feet is your listening chair from the speakers?

Holy Moly! That is really exciting! Share more pics as you make progress.....

thanks Eddie.

later today i will try to get better pictures that relate the elegance and beauty of the design.

Cool!! Can't wait to hear them!!

come on over later today or tomorrow if you have time; you are always welcome. after overnight breakin they don't suck.;)

They sure look nice! Congrats.

thanks Sean. come over when you can if you are curious. the missing bass towers is only really evidant on certain music.

They look waaay more beautiful in your room than on the brochures that I have seen. I'm sure they will sound "killer", Congrats.

yes; they do look elegant and classy. great proportions i think. and sound 'killer' already.

Sweet ! Congrats Mike. Looks and I bet sounds awesome....

thanks Chris.

They look like they can go "woof woof" without the additional towers.

on most music the foundation and body is very good (not that it won't be improved with the bass towers, but there is not obvious lack); although my reference for a few cuts does tell me that something is missing without the bass towers......clearly the deep bass of the MM3's is quite outstanding as a reference. one thing is very clear; and that is that impact and speed in the mid-bass with these main towers sets a new reference for that issue to my ears.

Nic pics! Congrats man! Enjoy!!!
Wim

thanks. i am enjoying them.

Your pictures detail quite a story :D
Hope to hear them, sometime :)

thanks Sam. you know you are always welcome; it's time you and Sonny found your way back up here.

Thank you for sharing! They look awesome and probably sounds even more awesome. :b

you are welcome, 'awesome' is a word i would use to describe how it sounds.

Nice Mike, congrats. That's going to be some real audio porn once your bass tower units arive and them the Dart mono's :D

I also see you have made changes to your room.

thanks David.

and yes, it will be wretched excess for sure when it all gets here.

as far as the room changes; those happened 2 years ago. (1) removed huge (10'x 15') front side bass traps, covered that area with Quietrock THX 545 and a layer of 3/4" finish grade plywood (2) sealed the front and rear opennings to the ceiling bass trap with the THX 454 plus 3/4" ply (3) added the Auralex T-Fusors in the ceiling and side walls to control slap echo.

since then i've not changed the room. however, the new MM7 main towers are 13 inches taller than the MM3's (84" verses 73") so that does change the look of the scale of the room a bit. a week from now i'll have the bass towers which will change the room look even more, they are 86" tall and 3 inches wider than the main towers.

Thank you for allowing us to live vicariously through your audio journey :D

it's my pleasure to be of assistance.;)

thanks. and you are correct that so far all speakers like my room, and that the mature signal path and good sources do not hurt.

i do think my room is ideal for the MM7's in many ways.

Looking great Mike. How many feet is your listening chair from the speakers?

thanks.

i did not measure the chair-speaker distance.

however; the ear to tweeter distance currently is 116 inches, the tweeter to tweeter distance is 110 inches. i have been playing around with my seating position but i think this spot is pretty close to ideal based on where the speakers are currently positioned.

every variable is fluid at this time as there are many changes ahead to deal with.

i'm sure what you meant to say is 'what sort of dealer/manufactuer support do you get?' you would not judge a situation without asking questions about it i'm sure.

Thanks for the correction - you could have simply ignored me. I am glad to hear about the support. I had gotten the wrong impression seeing you move and laser-align things.

Better Pictures

this afternoon i had a few local friends (who are also WBF members) stop by to hear the main towers. i had fun, we played mono Lps for about 45 minutes which was excellent.

the last friend to leave selected 'Tommy' (Silver Label 'Simply Vinyl' pressing) and we listened to the 'Underture'.....i thought it was really nice....even without the bass towers.

now that i have had a few minutes after my visitors have gone, i did take the time to take a few better pictures of the main towers.
