Sorry Jhon, it is a Step Up Transformer - that is what I use to listen to my very low output Blue Angel Mantis, the King Cello phono stage has uo to 60dB inputs and I added 30dB more, it is connected in a daisy-chain mode.

Some people also refer to them as trafos in order to keep the confusion level high to the uninitiated.
