I'm currently running an ARC Vt-100 mkIII. I'm using 6550's. I was told that a kt-88 tube would be more dynamic and warmer than I currently have. I do need to retube my amp so now would be the time to do it. Does anyone here have experience running kt-88's in a Audio research amp?

I think you may well get a warmer and more dynamic sound (slightly) by going to KT88's. That is IF your amp can handle these tubes...physically and electrically ( I would suggest calling ARC about this, they are VERY good at knowing what works best in their amps).
OTOH,I would suggest you ask about replacing the 6550's with KT120's instead of KT88's, that would be the upgrade path I would follow IF ARC says your amp can handle these.

Don't think the kt 120 can be used with the VT 100 due to the horizontal tube layout. The top of the taller kt 120 will hit the transformers of the amp.
