HUGE REVELATION tonight.

Well a friend helped me quite a bit tonight. We were both not as impressed with Pure Music as some have been. I noticed little or no improvement over my Decibel software and he preferred Amarra Hifi for a while. Then he got a Berkeley Alpha DAC from Amir and it came with instructions to get Pure Music working properly in a Mac environment.

It basically involves bypassing all the Midi audio controls and moving to integer mode (and of course HOG mode) on Snow Leopard. Then and only then can Pure really control all the music and bypass all the junk that iTunes imposes.

The sound is now spectacular going from USB to AQ Diamond to V-Link 192 to Stereovox UltraXV to Benchmark DAC1 Pre. And tomorrow should get better due to imminent arrival of an AES cable.

I would describe Pure as a very detailed yet musical sound. Very present and realistic. I'm very, very happy. Lofgren Acoustic Live? He is in the room.

Now here is the odd part of this finding...the Pure instructions do not mention these steps as detailed in the Alpha DAC instructions.

Perhaps they did this since each users setup seems different.

But I wanted to let you know so you can get the most of any Pure Music trial. Perhaps the detailed Alpha steps can be posted by Amir. Pure is a pretty amazing music player.

Thanks Lee! I will check my settings on my Mach2 server, I would think that this is considered in the pre-installed version of PM thou....and agree on your lines regarding how well it sounds with with a MacMini server.

You are welcome!

Amarra 2.4.1 now has an option to bypass Core Audio as well. Sounds pretty good!

Good to know. Thanks!
