    Hi Eli,

My terminals were not covered. The holes in the middle were open.

Honestly if it were me I would put this issue out of my mind and just enjoy the speakers. The receipt is what is important for resale, and since it was produced near launch they were probably extra careful with the production using only best materials. Even if they were in storage in a warehouse for a year it wont change a single aspect of the speakers, these things are designed to last a lifetime.

34 hours on them of almost continous playing. Very, very early, although they have evolved a lot since first time I played them.

Do not want to get carried over, but This I can say already. These are, to my ears, the best speakers I have heard Ever , and no by a small margin... If I compare what I just heard last hour and a half of so, playing a selection of tracks I know and like a lot, to previous listening of same tracks in many different systems and speakers, it is hard to find words to describe..

These do all the thing a big speaker does but even to a greater and finest extend I had ever experienced, (but what is most impressive) combined with the refinement, the transparency and precission of a monitor. And with a deepness and richness in tone that is beyond what I can describe. Oh boy...

Comparing to the Maxx 3, the sF Aidas or the Magico Q5s, to name the ones closest in price and size I considered and gave long listening sessions, to my ears and taste... There is such a difference I can not believe. They are in diferent leagues really. Not even close...

Not sure how they will evolve when 100 hours and on... Cant even imagine.. I am very excited as you can probably tell.

Although I am probably not getting as much 'weight' in the lower registers as you are with my CR1's, I fully agree in that these speaker designs are in a different league to ANYTHING I have every previously heard and this is why I have become so passionate about this brand. The beryllium tweeter is great, but the beryllium on the midrange adds a kind of effortless transparency and resolution across the spectrum that is only really achievable with electrostats but in this case with none of the weaknesses. I honestly cannot see myself ever moving away from this brand.

Yes Joost. You know how much I liked also the CR1s. Altohugh the presentation is overall quite different from the one I am getting from the R1s, I would have also picked the CR1s over the models I said above... Well almost did actually, and would do still.

There are many brands out there I have not listened to, but asmfar as I know, These TAD, being expensive by any standard, when compared to competition out there, you are actually getting much more for every euro/dollar expended.
