Depending on how feel about the CD may color your feelings about James T. Russell. The fact is he deserves a place in the Hall for Audio inventions. if there is such a place. Mr. Russel was an audiophile tweaker. he used a cactus needle as a phono stylus. That worked but he wanted something better. Something that would cure the problem of wear, static, and tics and pops. He decided the disc would be read by optics.

He did envision it as perfect sound forever. Despite his work, he was employed worked by a company called Battelle who owned all his patents.

Tragically Mr. Russell never profited financially for his discovery. His patents belonged to the company and was sold to others.
