Two new 3-D films each debuted with $50 million or more at the box office this weekend, jumpstarting ticket sales at the multiplex after weeks of lackluster business.

The weekend's winner was the animated "Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted,"which opened with a healthy $60.4 million, according to an estimate from distributor Paramount Pictures. Ridley Scott's science-fiction epic "Prometheus" also got off to a good start, grossing $50 million in its first three days of release. ("Prometheus" played in 862 fewer theaters than "Madagascar 3" this weekend.)

Prometheus is a disappointment -- gets pretty dumb and nonsensical after a solid start

Since we almost never go to the theater, I will watch both of these on Bluray 6 months from now (or whenever they are released). Looking forward to both of them.

Although we almost never go to the theater, I will not watch either of these on Bluray whenever they are released. Looking forward to something better.

---There are movies for the kids, movies for us, movies that come and go; soon forgotten,
and there are movies with real emotional impact of true Cinematic ART in the Photographic/Memoric essence.

Let our senses be mesmerized by what turns us (each one) on .... :b
