I assume radar detectors are used largely or exclusively on empty roads. The only person at risk in such a situation is the speeding driver.

Fortunately even people who seek in many areas of life to impose their values on others cannot outlaw acceleration!

Floor it, Bruce B! Floor it, Christian!:D

I just scheduled a custom tune for my STi... should get it down to low 4s 0-60 and mid 12s in the 1/4. :)

I use my RD all the time, it's a Passport Redline. Amazing detector, would love to get the laser "shifter"/jammer but they are unfortunately illegal here in CO.

The worst place to use them (speed). When there is no Traffic, cops use the instant on feature meaning when they see a car approaching, the turn the gun on instantly. At that point your busted...it doesn't matter how good the radar detector is. The best time to speed is with traffic when cops will keep the gun on all the time giving you adequate warning from the radar detector.

The best radar detector in the world won't do you any favor from the cop planes and cop drones above.
...And you have the spy cop cars with new apps integrated to their hi tek screens.

Where did this scofflaw society come from? The laws are there to protect you. This country values the rule of law, at least last time I read the Constitution.

If your daughter dies from a speeder, I think you might have a different opinion about speeders. The statistics show that speeding is a predominate factor in most fatal accidents.

I don't have a problem with acceleration. This is velocity, not acceleration. I have a Tesla myself and leave everyone in the dust. I also keep it +5 for my speed. This is just wise. I have literally never received a speeding ticket in my life. Life is much more enjoyable when you are not looking always for a police cruiser. Just CHILL. It's more fun. Nobody needs to be in that much of a hurry.

99% of the time cops around here are too lazy to use laser or turn their radar on and off. Many do not believe radar detectors even work...

+5 is still breaking the law Steve! Personally, I never speed and only use the RD as a reminder that I'm being clocked. I honestly can't believe you're ok with speeding Steve. It's illegal. Are you a scofflaw?

I only go +5 on the highway, particularly 2-lanes highways. The majority of the traffic goes +5 here, so you will **** off many drivers if you do 55. Oregon is stubbornly holding onto 55. It's a tradeoff between road-rage or risking a citation. No cop gives a ticket at 60 in a 55. So I guess the answer is: yes, I'm a scofflaw in order to improve my safety, but not to get there 1 minute faster. I also go over the speed limit when passing a 45MPH truck in a 55 zone. This is also against the law in Oregon. Safety is my main concern.

The Fascist Liberals want to protect us from (cars, guns..you name it) ? Is that why they can't mind their own f-ing business ? Your righteous indignation is laughable.

I lived in the PNW for 5 terrible years. The drivers in the PNW are the absolute worst, the most passive aggressive people of all time.

Roads in Thailand need no radar detector. I drove 120 km/hr with my Bavarian friend in the car and he said it felt scarely faster than 300 km/h on his autobahn. Also the speeding fine is only $16 with no penalty accumulating tickets.

Ouch. That would make me upset.

I honestly think the country has a problem with speed limits that are severely dated for cars that are rarely on the road anymore. But I did just live in Mt where it's mostly 80mph, and a good time back there wasn't one. (Feds became some punk dicks that said you have a speed limit or not funding, despite no difference in accidents)

I could not agree more
=========
The best radar detector is cruise control set to 5 over the speed limit. If you must go faster than this, you are a danger to me and my family. There is no excuse for this behavior and your liability is not worth the risk. You could lose everything you own if you get sued. Same if you use a cell-phone while driving. In this case, you could lose your freedom too.

That sounds a little self-rightous

That sounds a little self-rightous. The laws are designed to collect money.

Agreed +1000

Speeding is a VICTIMLESS crime established to collect fines.

Causing injury if you hit someone is a completely different thing and that can occur at any speed.

I have heard from a number of sources the detector to get is the Valentine.
