I love those photos Joost. Thank you for posting. I would love to own an all TAD setup. I DO MISS my 911 and can't wait until the monos arrive.

The CR-1s driven by the TAD DAC-Pre and the Class D power amp were great, I think better than the Weiss-Viola setup I heard last saturday.

Thanks Valerio, I assume you heard them with the C2000 preamp/dac and the M2500 stereo power amp from the Evolution line?

Wow, doc, it says quite a lot about the TAD electronics if the $29k C2000 and $20k M2500 outclassed the $19k+$45k+$59k Weiss/Viola setup. Did you hear these in the same room/conditions?

Makes you wonder how good the $68k TAD M600's would be. Apparently these were co-designed by the guys over at Technical Brains, makers of some of the finest SS amps on the planet.

No, the rooms were different and I made the comparison "by memory". What I remember is that with the Viola set-up I though "mmmm, pretty good" while with the full TAD it was "wooooowwwwww". :)

I also have to add that the full TAD room was set by the chief engineer of TAD, who lead the demo.

Does TAD also do their own digital?

The produce a SACD player with digital inputs (reference line) and an analog preamp with an internal DAC stage ("entry level" line  ) which is the one that I auditioned, together with their stereo class-D power amp.

Thanks...have you spent time with the SACD player? Thanks for any insights or observations!

No, Lloyd, I have never had the chance...
Anyway, considering how the lower series impressed me... I mean, we're speaking of a really excellent system, something I could live happily with.

I just think that, even with the ability to afford such these expensive components, I'd probably look to something more terrestrial.
The system I listened to was an overall $90k, cables excluded.
I've never hidden my appreciation for Spectral electronics. The cost of their reference preamp, plus the top stereo amp is $20k. I really like Wilson speakers and the Sophia III are around $18k. With a good DAC, a quiet and musical phono stage (I got an excellent impression from the $4k Zesto phono) and a good turntable setup I guess I could get an excellent system, spending way less than a digital-only source $90k system.
But when I think about value for the buck, while speaking of top gear, it's the music lover rather than the audiophile that is speaking :)

Thanks Docvale,

Very, sensible! I have similar considerations ongoing here as well, mainly on digital upgrades. Good luck and look forward to reading more of your posts.
