Theoretically the amp should not be fussed about the power quality coming in, IF it is really well engineered.
Frank- there is also the issue of DC in the mains. You could argue that better amps with very high quality transformers are more sensitive to this. Personally I have run a McIntosh MC402 power amp for several years without issues. When I switched over to a Burmester 911 I found it was humming/buzzing like crazy. After a call with Burmester we determined it was due to a high amount of DC current in my mains. A burmester 948 power conditioner resolved this issue completely. I have also heard of others who have had the same issue when upgrading to higher quality amps.
My dealer wants me to try a 948 as well. I'll give it a try and see what happens. My stereo 911 was stable and did not hum even without the PS Audio Humbuster III but I think it helps nonetheless. Other amps I've had absolutely needed the Humbusters to keep the transformer quiet.
This is what I mean by good engineering: Classé and Bryston are 2 companies that actually include the humbuster technology within the amp itself to block the DC component. They actually assume the mains quality is poor, and take steps to alleviate the situation as part of the amplifier's circuitry.Frank- there is also the issue of DC in the mains. Nice idea Joe!
Below are mine in a temporary setup, will post an updated picture later on...
Understood. The PPP is there, but not utilized at the moment.
Thanks Steve!!!
Thanks for the pictures and videos UltimateAudio! Did you notice a big difference between the C2000 and C600/D600 combo?
it's far less money to install a dedicated line to buy a power conditioner which as I stated would never plug my amp into as you can lose a lot of life from your amp
Steve I made that point over 20 years ago in a letter published in a now defunct magazine. Not everyone can persuade their landlord to make the upgrade.
Are there power conditioners that don't restrict the power? I have a PurePower 2000 that will briefly put out more than it's rated for when necessary. Granted, I am not using it on the amps at the moment.
