Here are the few pic's.
Its a GatorPit Backyard deluxe model with gas assist for firebox.
The main area can be used with lump if so desired for grilling.
Its a little over a ton 2300lbs, without a doubt heavy and solid.
When we first got it we seasoned it with veggy oil wipe downs and test fired.
It has control chambers(deflection plates) on the bottom that allow for heat/smoke to go right to left a few times, this aids in temp control consistency when smoking from firebox.

We also have a gas grill. But at times we may start a lump fire, it just depends on what we are in the mood for.

Where the Old Man in the mountain used to be

Mostly apple, as it easy to get here, though I personally like pecan.

Ron, 2,300 lbs, are you serious!!?

What's interesting is that at the time, it was one of the smallest units GatorPit made. Most of there smokers were built on trailer type rigs to be towed.

I like the pellet type grills like the Traeger because it makes things much easier. You fill up the hopper with the pellets and you are good to go. There is an auger at the bottom of the hopper and the auger turns slowly and keeps the wood pellets feeding into the burn pot. You set the thermostat for what temperature you want to cook at and let the magic happen.

Mark

A Traeger was one we were considering, also one out of Georgia(it had a firebox) cannot remember the name now. Even a few of the electric's. They were pellets too. Saw some the year we competed.

Mark is right this type of smoker, certainly initially, requires attention. Eventually like anything else one gets a system that works for you.

Very nice smoker. That is some hard core smoking in weather like that!

Thanks, we had a # of buds coming over for the game that evening so one does do what one has to do.
It stopped by middle of the afternoon getting the driveway and front cleared for cars was a lot more work. That was our first try with StLouis cuts
