Would not be the first time we disagree. I find this particular recording much more satisfying on CD than on LP of which I did have the first pressing.
IMO piano is one of those instruments where (the best) CD matches and often surpasses (the best) analog.

Frantz,

Muralman is talking about the original CD RR-25CD being better than the later CD (which was remastered in HDCD as RR-35CD). I had the original LP, and while good, I didn't feel it was "what's best".

Another Reference jewel is "Nojima Plays Liszt." I am talking about the first pressing, the RR -25CD, not the new HDCD version. On my system the unmodified recording is more live sounding than any other piano recital in my collection.

Yes, an excellent recording, but it was made in the studio, not live.

I sold high end audio in the hay day for almost 20 years. You show me an audiophile recording and (most of the time, David Chesky has some exceptions) and I will show you uninspired music. Here is one:

Kurt Elling - Live in Chicago. I also agree wholeheartedly with Belafonte at Carnegie.

Lee:

I was never a huge fan of the RR LPs; they always had a diffuse, grey metallic veil over them. Big bass but the upper octaves were weird sounding. If u can, get a listen to the TTP 15 ips RR reissues; they're in another universe. Know that Stan Ricker mastered many of the RR releases but just didn't do a great job (was it the 1/2 speed mastering???).

Just got this recently, nice live recording, with nice back up band. I never thought I'd enjoy the Spanish songs as much as the English ones.
