Or you could copy the output on channel 4 to another output in JRiver's DSP and then uncheck or delete it for playback. I do that all the time for channels when doing REW measurements. I just leave REW set to output to the left speaker, but use Mix Channels in JRiver to route the sound to other channels for measurement.

Won't work, because during calibration I bypass Jriver so I cannot remap channels or copy output. I was hoping this can be done in the lynx mixer, but am not sure it can, and I certainly have not figured out how. In any event, I am totally fed up troubleshooting software and want to go back to listening to music at some point (in the near future).

I know you can route inputs in the Lynx mixer since I route my measuring mic on input 9 to input 1. I'll check tonight and see if I can route the outputs.

I forgot to reply back. You can easily copy the Lynx outputs to other channels as long is it is the same channel in the pair. For example you can copy channel 2 to channel 4, but not to channel 3. You unmute/mute channels in other columns to copy them. If you copy channel 2 to 4 for measurements, then Dirac will fill that channel properly and the output matrix should work. Let me know if you still don't understand.

If you keep your Lynx mixer settings locked, make sure you unlock them first. I was trying to do some stuff and couldn't figure out why it wouldn't work.

Thanks. Meanwhile I have confirmation from Dirac that the mapping screw up is a bug in their software, which they will address in new release. Basically, you cannot skip a channel in calibration.

I am going to just redo a calibration inserting a speaker on channel 4 (LFE) during calibration and take it out during playback. This should be the most foolproof method. I am also finding out changing between different sound output devices (SotM and Lynx) screws things up.

Bottom line, this is not a very robust piece of software, but if it works sonic results are great.

Before I can do anything, I need my new server with dedicated video card to come in - I was having problems with motherboard video as well. I already ripped most of my Music Videos and MCH SACD, so content is lined up for a stable piece of hardware to play it back with.

All in all my HTPC project to date has been an unmitigated disaster, but I'm not giving up until I have it sorted out.

As you know audio technologies from DTS Inc.(NASDAQ: DTSI) are used in a wide range of consumer electronics product applications as DTS provides a suite of audio processing technologies for users of consumer electronics products.
DTS also provides products and services to motion picture studios, radio and television broadcasters, game developers and other content creators to support the inclusion of DTS-encoded soundtracks in their content.

dts_400x267.jpg

DTS, Inc. recently installed a 32 channel Dirac Live Room Correction system in the mixing studios at their headquarters in Calabasas, California... this is what Zoran Fejzo, Head of R&D, Fred Maher, Mastering and Mixing Specialist and Bob DeMaa, Audio Testing & Mixing/Mastering Specialist, said:

"We all sat down and listened to Dirac Live. It's remarkable how much of difference it makes for some mixes and is really revealing about the room the material was actually mixed in. No other room correction system that we have tried really touches the precision we are hearing with Dirac"

The possibility of making that special 32 channel version of Dirac Live a commercial product for studios is under evaluation.

The new 192 KHz version of Dirac Live is now online: http://www.dirac.se/en/online-store.aspx and it is a free upgrade for current users.

There are some improvements that are listed in the release notes as well as compatibility fixes (i.e. Xonar u7 or non-fullduplex ASIO devices exaSound e28)... one which eventually can be useful is that Dirac Live will not be platform specific anymore.
As requested by some users you will be able to download and run on Windows or Mac as you wish.

Hi, I don't know if anyone can help, but I could sure use it. I've had Dirac for about 2 weeks now, and haven't been able to get it to work in my system. I'm using it in an audio production studio setup. I'm running Pro Tools 10 on a Mac (OSX 10.6.8), using a UAD Apollo as my interface. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks Bob. Enjoyed watching it. Mathias is a very good speaker. Highly recommended even though I don't agree with him completely :).

Well, post #2 from Kris Deering (an audio writer/reviewer who I respect), from the provided link, incited me to share here, and I was exactly thinking of you.
...And I looked @ the best thread here @ WBF to post it in. ...This one was the best, among the rest.

Kris does nicely summarize the areas of conflict that I alluded to :). The explanation is simple though. When you sit there all day long and tweak audio as Mathias does, you get to develop preference for dead rooms/lack of front reflections. Most of us though are not similarly situated and would enjoy having side reflections than not.

I think his views and Toole's views can be reconciled. I really believe Matthias is referring to low frequency early reflections. I think Toole's research wasnt capable of studying only low frequency early reflections. I believe he used fiberglass panels. They are Excllent at absorbing higher frequency energy but useless at anything below 120hz or so. So really their views are not out of step. I agree with Matthias that taming early low frequency reflections can be low hanging fruit for improving image quality.

The odd thing about Matthias' views on many early reflections is that DSP simply can't do very much to improve their effect on the listener.

I also disagree about multi-point correction and his graphs seem to support my view that single point works very well over a wider listening area.

The special sauce in all DSP softwares is how the measurement is filtered prior to inversion. If that is done well, I believe single point is superior to multi-point. The reason is in the time domain. You cannot average or even incorporate 9 different impulses into a single impulse filter. The time domain won't be as coherent as a single point measurement. Again, the filter before inversion is the key.

DIRAC is a wonderful company and I look forward to their Unison product. It's the most exciting vaporware I can remember.

The MOST irksome and frustrating aspect of DIRAC is their lack of interest in digital crossovers. It baffles me.

I agree. Although, I do a workaround by doing bass management xovers in JRiver. It works just fine and it is easy to do. But, it precludes use of the JRiver WDM driver for sources in my PC that are incompatible with JRiver playback, like Netflix.

The thread is expanding...slowly but surely...with Markus's comments part of it. ...It seems to me that how we interpret the words is very important.
I am following...with an objective view...and discarding any biased visions that some members might have.

@ the end only the concrete auditory/improved results count, acoustically and intelligibly speaking...with all the details that were obscured before now in total exposition...the sounds. ...And in a realistic way, like if live with all the proper acoustics gelling together...without smearing or blurring. ...First direct sounds, then first reflections, and secondary reflections...and in all their proper time (harmoniously sound).

Markus mentioned that they are basically saying the same thing; between Mathias and Floyd. His interpretation of the video seems to differ from Kris's own. ...To be follow...
