Today sipping on some Appleton Estate V/X, this one has a nice vanilla note, kinda floral, slightly spicy, sweet, also a nice cherry note. Medium finish, pretty smooth. Another awesome rum.

Cheers!

OK..No serious discussions about rum could be complete without mentioning one of the most fabled rum in the history , one also that is, unfortunately, poorly known ... Rhum Barbancourt, from Haiti .. Made the same way with the same ingredients from the same provenance since 1761 .. No change even the barrel where the rum matures (oak I believe come ftrom the same forest) and are made the same way. The biggest problem for this rum is that the people in charge refuses steadfastly and with good reason to change anything about this rum... The leve lof production could have been increased by changing some ingredients (The Sugar Cane for example) or the way the sugar juice is distilled or the way it matures and where it matures .. To no avail.. They have changed nothing and for the good of it .. One of the best rum, ever and from any connoisseur likely the finest rum in the whole world ... Their top of the Line ; "Reserve du Domaine" is aged for 15 years !! The one below the "Cinq Etoiles" will shame any other rum you wish to name.

Rhum Barbancourt is more a Cognac that would have been made of Cane Sugar than a simple rum .. should be sipped for best results in a cognac or Brandy glass
I brought Steve (OB) some and although Steve is not a Rum drinker he could tell you how flavorful and potent this rum ..is ... An explosion of flavor ..

I don't drink but have tasted it of course and am from Haiti :)... Seriously, try to get a hold of it ..I promise you will be hooked ...

I still have those two bottles Frantz and like you I don't drink. My guests tell me they are quite potent

agree.. one of my friends who used to be a bartender and into rhums liked how smooth it is when he tried it in my place. I always bring a few bottles back to Canada everytime I go to the Phils.

Yep, I've had that one and it is good. Some of my other favorites:

Juan Santos 21 Yr Antigua Reserva - Ultra smooth
Flor de Caña Centenario 21 - Actually 15yr aged (21 = 21st century)
Mount Gay 1703 Old Cask Selection - When I want to splurge
