Hi all!

I just wanted to let you all know that about one year has past
since I built my own professional home recording studio.

Since then I have spent my time learning the sound of the studio,
at the same time as I have recorded a lot of songs.

I thought at least some of you were interested to hear the first
real mix , coming from a professional home built studio, therefor
I have a link to share on Youtube.

Oh, also, this is a video I also shoot and edited my self, and I did
it with a still image photo system camera from Nikon (D7000).
Also, I am not a star in any way, but it is me who is singing so I
had to be in it :D

Visit my Youtube page to see a video of my studio build, and also my
first official music video of the song "Break that chain", with the music,
the mix, and mastering made in my home pro studio!

So, here it is:

Kind Regards,
Mike E.

Hej Mike!

Congratulations, the studio looks fantastic. You got some catchy hooks on your song too. :)

You uploaded a vid of the band DeTrop. First time I've ever seen or heard of them. I liked the raw energy of the arrangements.

Do you mean the band "Delirious Music Project"?

This is all me, my band. I wrote the song "Break that chain" and I am also the engineer, mastering engineer and singer :) On top of that, I also shoot the video and did the edit work! :)

Thanks for the kind words!

Kind regards
Mike E.

It's really great to see someone put their heart and soul into a studio project like this. Great job!

Yes, it really sounds great!

Thank you Tim!

Tell us about the gear. Do you have an equipment list? I'm a big fan of active studio monitors. What monitors are you using?

I am using KRK VXT6 as my main mix monitors. The other speaker pairs are more hifi-like, just to be able to check against.
I have a pair of Yamahas hifi-like, and the really big ones in the back wall is cerwin vega. These two pairs are only used
to compare the mix with the studio monitors.

At an early stage in my studio mixing life I learned that if you have at least two different hifi speaker pairs (one small set, and
one large set) to compare the mix in, and if you can make the mix sound almost the same in all speaker sets, including the
studio monitors, then you are close to a great mix!
Of course, the more non-monitor speaker sets the better... But that would take up a lot of space in the studio :)

I use ProTools HD-3 (the TDM version) as DAW.

One really neat mic preamp is "The Strip" from TK Audio... It sounds really, really great!

[edit]
I forgot: I used the sE Z3300A mic when recording "Break that chain". Both for guitar and vocals.

I also use the TDM version of Waves Diamond package.

[EDIT]
Oh, there is one more thing I've learned...
The most important tool is my ears and my knowledge :)
Without that, the equipment is useless, no matter the price of the toys :)

[Edit] again :)

To those who are going to build a studio for the first time:

- DO NOT buy expensive hardware as the first step.
- First build the control/mix room as serious as you can afford.
- Read, read, and read even more about how to build a studio.
- Never buy cheap (looking good) bass traps, thinking of those foam-type things.... Yeah, they look great, but they will not work great!
- Base is really powerful energy that needs to be converted into heat. A lot of cheap products will not do that (you can almost see it).
- You are better of, and it saves you money, if you build your own bass traps.
- If you can build your studio with slat walls all around, thick ones, then do it!!! Then you most likely won't need any bass traps :)
- Use your ears!

If you have a bad sounding mix/control room (bad acoustics), the price of the equipment can't help you.

Kind regards,
Mike E.
