Saw this posted on the Steve Hoffman forum. I know I had a part in this...

We've seen some conflicting data on vinyl sales this year, especially from indie stories. But this is looking pretty bullish: according to stats just released by Nielsen Soundscan, vinyl sales in the US topped 3.9 million in 2011, a 39.3 percent gain over 2010. The modern-day LP resurgence now looks like this...

I know I've done my part :) Nicest thing about CDs is that they take up a fraction of the space of LPs.

This is also the result of some companies that invested in the format and its distribution.

Here's hoping the upward trend since 2008 continues. Like Myles, I've certainly contributed my share. Over 5 Million next go around?

In 2011, I bought more vinyl than CDs and digital downloads put together. So, count me as another contributor.

Well, at least to push back the onslaught of mp3s (i may not be a vinyl guy...but i am DEFINITELY not an mp3 guy), i have bought more CDs in the last year than in the prior 10 years combined. Perhaps 400 or more. Prices have fallen precipitiously and i discovered Amazon's 'collection' of CDs, and easy way to listening before you buy, buyer protection, easy buying process...and i have enjoyed discovering music to a degree i never thought possible.

BTW, i probably paid about the same for those 400 CDs last year as for approx 50-75 of my earlier CDs!!!
