This is a very preliminary report, since I'm only a portion of the way through the first film.

There has been heated debate on the net regarding the picture quality of the Blu-ray versions of these films. I'll state that there is a significant boost in clarity and detail, but not as consistent as one might hope. I'll post further when I've completed watching the entire set.

The real star here, and it's a no-brainer to say this, is the audio presentation. Sporting a DTS-MA 7.1 soundtrack, this version leaves the DVD releases in the dust. When you merely hear the jungle environment during the "Universal" logo screen at the film's beginning, you instantly know you're in for a demo-quality ride. Wow! is all I have to say.

More later.

My son and I very recently watched the first one on DVD. It was great, as always. Any improvement will be welcomed, but not necessary. I just don't have the videophile thing, or even the surround sound audio thing. It can be nice, but for me, the movies are all about the story telling, and most of my favorites don't contain much in the way of special sound effects. This one is an exception, as is the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

To quote Jeffrey Kauffman from Blu-ray.com:

For those prone to pre-judging releases, Jurassic Park Ultimate
Trilogy will have two strikes against it going in: first off, it's a
Universal catalog titles, and those have long been the bane of high definition
aficionados, and second of all it's encoded via the VC-1 codec, which for some
reason is the Rodney Dangerfield of video compression techniques
