Just to expand the belt talk further, has anyone used dental floss (unwaxed) as a TT belt? It was popular here in the 90s and when Dr Forsell came over and demo'ed his Air Reference with dental floss as belt, I tried it on my VPI but I didn't seem to like the effects. And also I guess the fit is not snug as my motor cannot be pulled away like the Forsell's separate motor for a tighter fit.

Our dear departed friend Atty. Jun used dental floss on his TNT. Honestly I couldn't tell the difference. I never tried it myself. I don't know how to tie a flat knot. The thought of having even just a tiny bump on the belt turned me off of the idea.

Tony Ky Ma here at WBF has been doing trippy things with threads as belts.

I know my Well-Tempered belts came packed in talc. They also recommended inverting the belt over the motor too!

Ahh. He did...Yeah, the small bump from the knot will always be a bugger.

UPDATE:

Nine year old thread, just wanted to inject a recent experience.

In the mail today was my Dual belt with no white powder stuff on it, just bare rubber.

If I recall correctly the last time I changed the belt 10-20 years ago it had talcum powder on it and came directly from the US distributor on the East coast.

This belt came via Amazon through Bob's Vintage Electronics.

I don't think any sort of broad generalization can be made, just reporting a recent experience.

The twist in the belt thing is interesting, maybe in another 10 years when I have a flappy belt I might try a twist to pick up the slack.
