    cj ART Amplifier

    Good news ART amps arrived.

Bad news. Found out (not that I didn't know) that they only have about 100 hrs of playing under their belts and need another 200 hrs. Damn those Teflon caps (BTW, even the polystyrene power supply caps are bypassed with Teflon caps)! Looks like I'm going to have to break down and hook up the CD player (hmmm...now where is it ). Anyway look at it though, it'll take about two months to fully break in the amps.

Myles, because I'm so jealous I'll poke a little fun at you. Nothing says you have to listen during the break in. 61 days in two months. 61x24=1424hrs. Now put that cd player on repeat, send a check to the electric company, apologize to the neighbors, and get us a progress report in two weeks.

Isn't that the truth. I was thinking the same when I first read the thread and guestimating what that will add to the electric bill.

Myles, do yourself a favor however and use Jim Auld's (Purist Audio Design) System Enhancer (burn-in disk) and save yourself a lot of time and money

    Hey Greg,

Neighbors aren't too much of a problem being on the second floor (only upstairs)

As far as Con Edison goes, don't use a check anymore; I actually pay over the phone One day Con Ed will move into the 21st century and allow payment over the 'net! But what do you want for paying the highest electrical rates in the country?

Yeah used to have one around, will have to dig around in the closet to see if can find it Thanks for the suggestion. If not, maybe I'll give Jim a call.

    Hmmm Myles.

I almost don't want to know how they eventually sound. I really can't afford new partners to my ART3

I hope they sound like my prem8a's with teflon caps, but quieter, a lot more dymanic bass slam and depth, a nice see through pure midrange and similar or better treble purity and extension.

I am worried about having a 6h30 in the circuit, as I did not appreciate the slightly stark/neutarlity of the prem 140 - It ventured to close to ARC for my liking. I heard the LP275's were a step back to more tonal warmth and musicality of old, but still nice and transparent.

I look forward to your review, warts and all.

    cheers

Think about the seamless, grainfree, smooth sound of the best triode tube or single ended amp with effortless sound

    Sounds wonderful Myles.

How does it drive low impedances, or are you only running them on your ML's.

My Strad's while efficient do have a low impedance in the bass region that my prem 8a's struggle a bit on.
