Request Media Server

Well, today I was told by somebody who knows - and sells - that Request Media Servers as implemented by them are the best in house solution.
I am inclined to beleive guys who know, but who has heard this "best"
I am very careful of superlatives, but then I still run a Wadia S7i, so i must be gullible.

Anyway: If not Request, what then?
And as a sidequestion: How much ist a solution for your house of seven rooms gonna cost?
