Depends on what you mean by "easy."

It's a lot easier than it looks. There's no other way to do it unless you have a Sonoma system. The hardest part is finding a Play Station 3 with the correct firmware. I got mine from my secretary because I knew she bought one of the first releases of the PS3.

Although I love streaming DSD, I am always more surprised at how "hi-rez" redbook can sound with the MPD-5.

Steve - the one-box Playback Designs unit is in my short-list, probem is that I am more than OK with the Oppo/Mach2/Havana digital setup I own now, but sure that when the upgrade bug hits again I will definitely considered it with other options from Berkeley (DAC only) or Accuphase players.

Can any users report their updates? I've been looking at this unit and I am starting to think this might be the DAC/player to get. I like what I've been reading, but am still a little confused with all the new features and DSD audio.

Hi Joe,
Although digital is highly subjective as with anything else in this hobby, I have to put my flag in the Playback camp as well. The best player I have owned to date & agree with Steve ( wouldn't trade it for any other )
I have owned the higher end Wadia's, Meinter gear, Esoteric, ect...to name a few.
The MPS-5 is much more analog sounding, which fits my tastes.
Upgradeable, for my future server too, soon I hope.
Service has been outstanding !!!!! which I can't say was a strong suit for other players I have owned.

Enjoyable read for me too as a MPD-5 DAC is on my short list ( an MSB Analog DAC being the other contender).
