I would not call it an equipment review - the text does not even list the system where they were inserted. It looks like an appetizer for a later full review.

Happily I have listened to these excellent monoblock amplifiers some months ago. Also, considering the advertised price those who will buy them will not need reviews!

Any rumors regarding an amp between the 108 and 458? That would be nice :) There might be a less expensive integrated down the road.

joe,

Going from 30k (stereo amp) to 120k (monoblocks) is too much of a price gap.
It only makes sense to come up with something in between. I know a bunch of people (me included) who would purchase a half-458, for a third of the price :D
But no solid rumours, unfortunately...

Magico - Dartzeel fans with limited budget :) now have a real problem - what is the better choice:

Dartzeel NHB-458 + Magico Q5

or

Dartzeel NHB-108 + Magico Q7

The measurements:

Q5 86dB/W
Q7 94db/W

NHB 108 200W /4 ohm
NHB458 800w/4 ohm

Instinct tells me 458 and Q5. Despite the 94dB rating, I still don't think 100wpc is enough for the low mids on down.

If the dB sensitivity gains on the Q7 are real (it has a claimed 94dB) I'd go with that. Much easier to drive, much more bass too, from what I read. Don't expect the 108 to have problems, unless the impedance curve is all over the place (2 ohms will hurt the 108).
Amps are always easier to upgrade than speakers, so my rationale is to always go for the best speaker.

It seems the Q7 can be bi-amped ..One could go half the way with Q7 and two (2) NHB 108 ...

Agree...plus there are other superb high-powered, high-current amps.

Nice stuff its a refreshing brake of all that black or " silver" anodised alluminium that you see elsewhere in the industry.
They have a big powersupply and are almost doubling the load in 4 ohms:D nice .
Only problem is they are a bit out of reach at the moment , oh well maybe in 5 years .

or....how about the Evolution Acoustics MM3's with the NHB-458's....or.....

the Evolution Acoustics MM7's with the NHB-108.

i was thinking i could either afford the 458's or the MM7's, but not both. last month i heard the MM7's in final pre-production form at Kevin Malmgren's. he was working on the crossover. simply amazing.

MM3---93db 6 ohm, 1000 watts per side with 2 15" subs
http://www.evolutionacoustics.com/loudspeakers/mmthree/
MM7---97db 7 ohm, 2000 watts per side with 4 15" subs, the bass tower is 86" tall and weighs 600 pounds.
http://www.evolutionacoustics.com/loudspeakers/mmseven/

i've ordered the MM7's for late July delivery.

BTW, i did have the NHB-453's in my room for a month 2 years ago. they are the real deal. if i can also add them to my system at some point without a divorce i will do it.

Congrats!!!!!!! Are they expansions of your current MM3s...as the MM3 is an expansion of the mm1 and mm2?
