One need only put on a good Joe Hisaishi recording to prove that music is a "Sonic Narcotic" (trade name I coined for my music reviews in Japanese Animation News & Review in 1992). I recommend The Universe Within and his Nausicaä soundtracks. I had an out of body experience the first time I heard the latter of the two recordings, and it sure as heck wasn't the sound quality, because I was listening to a cassette tape given to me by a tape trader in 1987, who recorded the tape off a very poor turntable cartridge that had tons of inner groove distortion. The music transcended the medium and it was heaven.
