I think what I am saying about Trios is well founded, as I like similar bass heavy content music like you. So I know, LOL.

Just read JV's absolute sounds review of Trios plus basshorn.
Very interesting....although he felt they began to roll off at 40 - 45hz ?
I guess i could supplement them with my velodynes from 40hz down

Initial research shows the German Physiks to be a contender. Plus they have a distributor in Edinburgh.
I might plan a low key, wander in off the street kinda visit, just to see if i like the family sound

Hi,

Did you consider just getting a Danley pro system? Some of their pro horns will do mind bending levels and much cheaper than you are proposing. We are talking up to 142db continuous bass lol. 1 pair of their BC subs or tapped subs with a pair of their synergy horns for the rest and you are well and truly cooking. I just don’t see how for your genre these can be beaten.

I wonder whether he is really right about that. That review says 18Hz but it isn't qualified, and nor is his estimation. In other words, how many DB down are we at 18 Hz?

Go to Munich or AG and listen to a basshorn stack. I'd be surprised if you felt wanting for more.

My friends run a sound system using Danley Labhorns. Can't say enough good things about them
I think they might be just the ticket for the garden - amphitheatre. I've no doubt they can smash the bass heavy stuff, but what about Alt-j, James Blake, etc?

Gavin are you basing this on having owned the birds nest Alon Phalanx?

I heard them at a friend's place around five years ago.No comment.

If you heard them five years ago they were in a very sorry state.
I part ex'd them for my Stellas, damged with both the bass drivers & almost all of the mid bass drivers blown. They really didnt have the power handling i require :p
Then i lost track of them, but my understanding was they had a moody repair and the crossovers were compromised during transit. They were eventually sold back to the guy i bought them from

If i like the apogee ribbon sound , i might buy a pair of duetta sign lol, complete ly overhauled.
I ve been listening to cones so long now .
One factor im doubting to experiment with is a large ribbon tw that can be crossed lower for my own designs, so hearing a full range topribbon , might give a hint whether it is my cup of tea or not , so far i ve not been blown away by ribbon tweeters.

Ps. Does anybody think a cat jl 2 sign running on kt 120. Is a good enough. Match for a apogee duette

The Duetta Signature was much easier to drive than the Duetta or the Duetta II. A good friend had the Duetta Signature with Audio Research Classic 150's - monoblocks with 8 x 6550 each.
