Had the opportunity to see Beirut this afternoon and it was better than anticipated. It isn't really a shoot-em-up though it has a bit of action. As the movie progresses you are trying to figure out what is the end game for all of the different factions within the storyline. As the movie ends they show several short historical video clips that summarize what the implications of the storyline might have been.

I saw this movie today and enjoyed it as well. Good story, interesting characters and a bit more cerebral than expected.

John Hamm was very credible as the main character. He is more than Mad Men!

It is a tragedy to see what has happened to Beirut and Lebanon since the civil war started - it was once held up as a great example of different religious groups living peaceably together and was called the Paris of the Middle East.

One of my neighbors is of Lebanese descent and she shared some stories about Beirut prior to the unrest at a dinner gathering a couple weeks ago - one of the reasons I was interested in seeing the film.
