First off Happy New Year to every one, I just acquired a Tascam 42 NB tape deck, over all everything is in nice shape and has had little use, the heads are good and after running the MRL test tape the rec/playback is okay except the right channel seems a little flakey and drifts now and then, so after pulling the right playback circuit board and looking over the service manual I discovered this is a duel layer circuit board and these are no fun to work on, so I thought this deck may be a good candidate for external preamps, now I don’t want to spend thousands of dollars on a preamp and the one I was looking into is the Bottlehead Eros tube preamp kit for under a thousand dollars, so my question is do these work okay with low impedance tape heads like the stock one in the 42 NB deck, I always thought tube preamps like high impedance heads, replacing the heads is not an option because the ones in the deck are good and I have an extra set of new one, anyone that has any advise or help would be greatly appreciated.

I would ask Dan Schmalle "Doc Bottlehead" directly. He is very responsive. Larry
