It doesn't get any better than this if you are a fan of Technics and R2R! :D

From J-corder room at CES

From Ear room (modded Technics)

I heard a CD dub to the Technics at the J-corder booth and boy, did it sound incredibly good.

Amir,

Did you ever get around to purchasing a reel-to-reel tape deck?

Timely! I saw and heard a lot of those machines... I found my old cheapie (Pioneer RT-707) RTR in the basement recently. I used it for a lot of live work (and even a few radio commercials) when I did not want to use my Revox B77 (long gone, sob) or one of the studio machines to which I had access (1" and 2" tape, and way too bulky for field work).

Not yet Sam. Found a couple of Nagra T's overseas but couldn't get the sellers to return messages.

Hi Don,

Is the Pio RT-707 or 909 a unit you'd recommend for an entry-level system such as mine? I almost bought a 707 a few weeks back, but it looked a little too banged up for my liking from the pics the seller submitted.

Bummer, Amir...stay patient! Easy for me to say - I really must adhere to my own advice...LOL ;)

Hmmm... Normally I would say "yes" as it is/was a decent-sounding RTR for the price. On this site, I dunno'... I have not had my 707 out of the box in many years but I think it's in pretty good shape. I thought it had pretty good sound, a little more hiss than my B77 (but substantial price difference), but not bad for average recordings. A couple of friends "in the biz" thought it was a pretty good little unit for the price, not a Studer but a cut above what they expected from a consumer deck. I guess that's a yes? ;) If you are interested I'd just as soon get rid of it as I am not using it and have no place for it now. (Need to sell my old ARC SP3a1 and Counterpoint SA-220 as well.) I have no experience with the 909.

Caught this one today. it was hiding in the TAD booth. :) Sadly, it was put behind the modern equiv. (the Mac playing high-res files).
