I have been mulling upon the building of an dedicated Mono vinyl replay system sporting an Single large Horn or open baffle transducer, true Mono compliance cartridge, single DIY SET amplification, and am wondering whether any members are, or have, run such a dedicated Mono rig?

WE systems. Many run single horn, so with mono cart it's what you want

I really enjoy the sound of mono. But I don't have a mono setup.

A single K-Horn with SET amplification and an Ortofon SPU would be very cool and retro.

So I am going to demonstrate some profound ignorance here but........

Like many people I have a bunch of mono recordings that were cut on a stereo lathe (like most if not all mono stuff from the 50's that were cut post 1970). On my stereo cartridge and rig I just don't get the appeal. Yet many rave of the unique sound of original monos cut on a mono rig with a mono cartridge and a single mono speaker. It is not apparent to me as to why this should be the case.

I don't get it.

No one has stated WHY they like mono.

Do you love mono, especially with one speaker because it gives you a solid sound source that you aren't getting with a two or multi-channel set-up?
