This was a long journey for me, a lot longer than the trip across the ocean. I have been involved with audio since I was a child. Music for me was never optional it was a requirement for living and being happy. I got seriously involved with the equipment while going to college in Boston in the late 60’s and early 70’s. After graduation I had thought about going to law school but never really was thrilled with the prospect of more school. I ended up getting into the electronics industry finding a management position at Lafayette Radio in New York. I immediately was drawn to the Audio department and my long search for great sound in my home began. Over the course of the next 40 years I have owned two stores, one on Long Island and another in Florida, worked for the great Mike Kay at Lyric Hi Fi in NYC for 12 years, was mentored and audio educated by Harry Pearson, and got to meet and interact with most of our Industries designers and amazing pioneers. Lyric was an amazing place and back then the hub of the audio universe. Anyone that was anyone visited and wanted to show and sell their products there. The best part for me was the opportunity to listen too and experiment with all the crazy gear.Lyric got it all first for a very long time. I was fortunate to be one of the “cool kids” back then.
I have always been fascinated with speakers and making them work in a room. I have always loved this task and getting the placement right to get the most out of the products. My personal taste always seemed to go towards certain types of speakers and I owned a bunch of them. I had all the Mageplanar Tympanis, lived with the Dahlquist DQ-10 along with Jon in my home for a long time most nights, I grew fond of what Arnie was doing at Infinty and had RS1B, IRS Beta and then a long term loan of an IRS from a client remodeling his home. I dabbled with Quads, Stax F-81 , Acoustat 2+2 and Fours and Martin Logan’s as well. I have to admit I loved the journey and really could follow the changes being made with material advances and the growth of knowledge and science.
I got disenchanted with the business aspects and the Industry politics but it was how I supported my family so I stuck with it until the recession of 2008 really pushed me away for good in 2012. I wanted back but only if I could find a way to actually represent a product I believed in and loved and I could do it my way. I looked casually for 5 years and finally through some quirk of fate and good luck came across the Gobel Epoque speakers. I was fascinated by both the sound and technology. I decided to call Oliver and we began talking over a few months and we seemed to share a lot of similar thoughts and philosophies. I finally decided to go for it and made the trip this summer to Munich to see if we could make this a reality. While in Munich I did extensive listening to all the products and my partner and I visited and observed all of Oliver’s suppliers, all German made, in and around the Munich area. We visited the largest anechoic chamber that he does his testing in and we were really impressed by Oliver’s passion and his expertise. He is a perfectionist! His suppliers probably hate what he demands from them since it is only the best but it gets done. The products are truly works of art. The construction is in my opinion second to none. I hope that as we go along that any readers that are interested get the opportunity to listen to our products and experience them.

Good luck Elliot. Can't wait to hear the "bending wave" loudspeaker. Will your first US installation be in Florida?

As I will be "downscaling" in the very near future and will need to be selling my Nola Concert Grand References, I hope to get the "little ones" in my house here in FL for a listen. I haven't heard them anywhere, but I like what I have heard about them and like the technology they employ. We will see.

Beautiful speaker Elliot

Do they need to be biamped or how are they run
Steve,
Both the Epoque Reference and Fine can be single amped or vertically biamped, They can also be single or bi-wired. I heard the speakers both ways in Munich. At Gobel Oliver uses one or two CH Precision M-1 amplifiers to drive the speakers. They are very cool in the way they let you switch from one mode to another. I plan to show them with a single amp in our showroom to start and perhaps show them both ways when required.
I had some issues with the pictures since I was doing in from my IPAD. I hope my new computer is set up this weekend and I can put up the rest.
