It's the angle of the armboard as he has it setup on the table, usually the armboards are in a straight line with tt's corners, wether 9"/10" or 12", in his CAD the armboard is angled to the extreme. The way he has it you lose one armpost

Thanks David. I get it. I will ask Marc if this angle in a must. His arm is pretty short and the round base of his arm is a least 3.5” in diameter.

I saw this position and realized I would loose one arm ever since I saw how he positioned his SAT on the AF3.

We shouldn't rush to any conclusions before seeing the armboard's dimensions and checking with Marc, it could just be the graphic. There are different length armboards for 9"/10"/12" arms, as an example here are templates for arms with 41mm diameter arm bases in 10" & 12" lengths without having to angle them.

Do you have a link to the AF3/SAT picture? What is the diameter of the section that goes through the hole?

I can tell you for a fact that you don't need to angle the armboards for a 10" Graham on the AS-2000 or any table based on Micro Seiki geometry unless they're using the same length armboard for 10" & 12" arms. I have no idea what's going on in this picture and those two arms.

You only need a 50.5mm hole for the SAT, isn't a problem for the armboard geometry.

David, for tonearms which don’t have SME-style armboard mounts or SME-style adapters what do we do? Does the tonearm maker have to machine a tonearm base hole and bolt holes in an AS-2000 tonearm clamp as shown in the SAT drawing?

Basically any tonearm will fit on the AS-2000 Ron, just need a template from the manufacturer and we'll make the armboard. We have a dozen or so templates already that will match most available tonearms anyway.

I finally switched my SPU85 with SPU90 on the AS 2000. It’s a fun transition. I still have only heard four sides with the 90. Very different sounding than the 85. It reminds me of a beefier in the bass A90. I have my fourth arm...another 3012R arriving next week and this will be a mono exclusive arm. So it will be 3-3012R’s and 1-Graham Elite 12” on the AS. I also bought another one today from Japan to run on the AF1. So I will have at least 4-3012R’s in my system. These tonearms are such a sonic bargain, sound so good and allow you better access to your cart Arsenal once initially setup in headshells ..

Thats the beauty of the Anniversary SPU cartridges, they’re all so very different from one another and all enjoyable for their own sake.

i just got my new SME V12 a couple of days ago, im still waiting for a suitable arm board for my AF3 to mount it.
i have 2X SME 3012R for sell locally (one with a KONDO wiring) but i'm a bit on hold about them... they are in EX condition though.
i already have the Thales SimplicityII, IKEDA 407, SME V12, and Ortofon RS212D jp on the way...

Thank you. I have been pleasantly surprised how easy it is to manage three or even 4 tonearms (soon) on one TT. No issues with cueing lp’s. No down sides...only more choices which is the spice of life. Cheers !

no doubt!
i think its a matter of getting use to it. and i'm with you about the spices.
it is very cool for whom can afford it to use several TT, arms and cartridges to tailor fit for specific recording\taste!
keep up! great to see it and read about it when you share!

How does the SPU90 compare to your Benz LPS ? I have a LPS i want to try in my 3012R arm, torn between buying a SPU95 or a Benz TR for use with step up transformer. Does the Bob’s devices do a good job with the SPU’s ? I’m limited to 2 arms on my TT at this Time. Keep up your posts on cartridges, they are great for inspiration.

3012R #3 for the AS. Using the Arche headshell our friend Tang was so kind to send my way. The cart is a Lyra Olympos SL Mono.

Congratulations Christian. I like the counters for each cartridge. At least if you ever sell one the buyer will know how much it has been played. You have not written much lately about the new turntable. Have you compared it to the AF1 or even played the latter since you got the AS2000? Now that you have lived with it for a while, how would you describe its sound?
