I apologize in advance for being new to the world of reel to reel and quite dumb, but here we are. I have a Teac A-4010S and would love to do a few recordings with it and have spent the day fiddling with all sorts of knobs on it. Ideally I set out to record a mono track with vocals and guitar all at once onto 1 and 3 (if I'm understanding this correctly) but was unable to figure out how to end up with a recording that would come out of both speakers and not just the left or the right. After giving up on that I decided to just record guitar through one side and then go back and record vocals through the other side. Unfortunately this also failed me as there was a second or so delay while recording the vocals which disallowed me from syncing up the two tracks. I am unsure if this is user error or perhaps some sort of mechanical one. Any help with figuring out either method would be much appreciated, my friends.

-Sincerely Yours,

you can't do what you want with this deck. you need an external mixer with a pan pot, connected to either that machine, or ideally a multitrack like a Teac 3340 or 3440.
