Actually, replacing the original SMPS with a linear power supply is the first important step (and maybe the easier) in improving the player performances.

Agreed. The LPS is the single biggest upgrade by far in terms of performance.

Yes, it is a massive jump in terms of both picture and digital audio quality in my experience.

not sure how relevant my Oppo 203 questions are for this thread; but maybe someone can help.

i use my 203 in my Home Theater only, and then only for Blue Ray and 4K Blue Ray movies. i don't listen to music 'only' there. i have a separate 2-channel room for music. this is 'movie' only. no sports or regular TV either, i have a separate spot for that.

the 203 is directly connected to my Lumagen Radiance Pro processor, which then sends the video to my JVC RS4500 projector, and the audio to my Anthem AVM60 processor. the 203 is on it's own shelf in my built in rack, with 8 inches of ventilation around it. it stays barely warm to the touch.

my problem is that at about the 2-2.5 hour mark on movies i get picture freezes. any ideas? i typically have to end up turning it on and off to get past the 'freeze'.

i think that the 203 has the current version of the operating system installed.

Improving even more the analogue power system (105/205). Now ultra low noise regulators for the +/-12v rails (TPS7Axxxx). Also I replaced the LM317, I used on pre regulators (DAC power system), with AZ1117, which is slightly better.

For those who may wonder about the rectifying bridges , these are (all Schottky diodes) ,mounted on the board downside.

Cambridge CXUHD is mostly identical to Oppo 203 (except the analogue audio outputs). Here is fully improved (also optical drive mounted on elastic suspensions)...

I did actually an full upgrade (LPS, clock board) for a 103 device, with the Vanity HD board inside. Improved the Vanity board as well...;)

Would you consider doing that again for another 103/Vanity combo (mine!)? If not, is there a specific LPS/clock board or a specific modder/shop that you recommend for that combo? Obviously, the LPS would only be for the digital board, as the analogue board has been replaced with the Vanity. I am also considering eventually adding the Oppomod i2S board for the HDMI out.

edit: I am in the U.S., if that affects your recommendation

It's been a long time since anyone posted in this thread, but I recently moved back to 120V land and needed a new LPS for my 203. Decided it was time to go big and try out the Coris unit so I ordered one.

Transatlantic shipping is a nightmare these days as it takes forever. In the meantime I decided to pick up another ZeroZone LPS - this time the new higher model copper version. This allowed me to compare it to the Coris LPS to see if the large price difference is justified.

I used the ZeroZone LPS (with upgraded IEC and digital cable also from ZeroZone) for about a month before I received the Coris LPS. I swapped in the Coris LPS (which also required removing the upgraded IEC and digital cable) and put in Casino Royale UHD.

So was the Coris LPS better than the ZeroZone? Is the price justified? The first question is an unqualified yes - the noise floor dropped to unimaginable levels revealing a wealth of background effects that I never knew existed until then. There were also clear improvements in vocal intelligibility and treble smoothness versus the ZeroZone. Is the Coris LPS worth double the price of the ZeroZone LPS. To me, yes, but I can't deny that an LPS that costs as much as the retail price of the player is a tough sell. However, if you're willing to spend the cash I can't imagine how anyone would be anything less than thrilled with the Coris LPS. Having said that, if the Coris LPS isn't in your budget please pickup the ZeroZone LPS or other quality LPS - this is the single biggest and most rewarding improvement you can make to your Oppo 203.

Wondering if you still offer LPS for the Oppo. I’m using an 203 digital only and am interested in an LPS upgrade, if possible digital only and for DIY installation.

Please let me know.
Thanks!

Cheers

P.S.: I’m in Germany.
