How do two 18 inch woofers per open baffled speaker, with a giant horn, voiced a bit in the style of vintage WE naturalness with more of a modernized detail and bass style sound? If the cabinet is almost 2 or 3 times the width of a Focal Maestro Utopia (135 cm) and twice the depth (at 80 cm)?

What if they are in the hands of someone who has distributed/dealt in WE, Silbatone, Line Magnetic and GIP replicas of WE, who owns the WE 16a and WE London?

Though I haven’t been able to compare his stash of 10 brands of NOS PX4, and the unfortunately damaged Marconi PX25, I have been able to compare his own manufactured amps of 304 TL, 833c/EL34, DB100/EL 34 amps, along with the cheaper Chinese TAD EL34 vs the most expensive Telefunken NOS EL34 (at 1000 EUR/pair? Phono stages, preamps, SUTs. Read on…

Also a brief SPU a85 vs a95 added. And some Caeles vs Nottigham Dais.

I should have added that this is my favorite room in EU, with the Apogee Grands and Yamamura, in fact this is more fun because of the other equipment...and would have been my favorite in the world if not for a small trip to Seattle last November.

I was going to title this thread in search of my last great loudspeaker but some used that one before.

This is the most interesting room for me. Look forward to read.

Love this. Interesting the amps I would have mistaken for Wavac has you not pointed out they are his own design.

Waiting to see if you end up with horns or Apogees

Which amps, there are three. 833c, 304 TL, and DB 1000. Don't think Wavac does one of those?

It is horns first, Apogees second, future room to decide.

Edit: ok, wavac does make an 833

Is that because of Wavac? Which ones did you hear?

Tubes notwithstanding the design of the amps is what stood out. Wavac used to be one of my top 3 tube amp companies...

Yes, but fortunately it is only a dream, I have not listened to them yet. But I was told their 833's are something special with XLF's...

Nice work Bonzo. Will have to read up again to fully digest all that information. If I understand correctly amps ain't u make that much of a difference with these horns?

They were two amps voiced by the same person.

But extrapolating your query, I have heard many amps on Universum recently, and have heard Airtight and AN integrated compared with the Avantgarde amps on the trios, many different ones on Tune Audio Anima.

With SETs, different SETs have different colors, from neutral to very colored. Pick your color choice, as long as they can drive them. There are some standout ones, but it's speaker driven. With SS amps, for example, there are many awful ones and differences in SS amps when combined with speaker requiring SS amps, is larger

Otherwise the differences in tube rolling were also very evident here and with Universum

The thing is, I had heard this one in the link below, almost 3 years ago, and had loved it. This was a similar design, except with JBL drivers, but both with Allnico magnets in their 18 inch drivers. He owned Wavac for sure don't know which model, and in this speaker, he had the Silvercore 833 biamped with EAR 100w for the bass. It had too much woodwork and isolation built in leading to a cost of 40k which is too much. Not much I could write there as then I was not trying to write much (below is a cut paste from an old post). The VoTT done right works.

So this is the other horn you've shortlisted as a possible destination Ked, very, very cool. This mystery horn has quietly had me intrigued since you mentioned it a while back.

Might be hard to not end up having both Apogees and horns eventually, especially after all the footwork you've put in on this excellent journey. Probably good that the room you have will likely make the choice for you.

The space at Christof's looks absolutely fantastic... very inspiring. Many thanks for sharing again.
