Hello all,

I am getting ready to start ripping my CD collection into my Synology NAS using Exact Audio Copy. I am wondering which lossless audio format would most prefer between AIFF, ALAC, WAV, FLAC, and why?

I appreciate your assistance, in advance.

Flac is the most universal lossless file format. That would be my choice. And is what I use.

Even if you think WAV sounds better than FLAC (some people apparently do, although it's unclear how or why), it is quick and easy to convert stored FLAC to WAV in RAM (some music player programs, e.g. JPlay, can do that automatically) and then play the WAV. FLAC has much better metadata, which allows you to more quickly find music you want.

FLAC maximum compression.

I plan to start trying out Wavpack with DSD.

Ok, sounds like FLAC is the way to go as I am looking for the metadata for library indexing. Now, for the arguous task of ripping 500+ cd's..

Thanks,again!
