Fences Official Trailer #1 (2016) Denzel Washington, Viola Davis

on a very rainy day here in SoCal my wife and I caught this movie this afternoon.

In one word this movie is "fabulous"

If Viola Davis doesn't win the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress this year IMO then something is wrong with the academy. IMO she is one of the best actors in Hollywood.

Cast: Mark Falvo, Toussaint Abessolo, Viola Davis, Stephen Henderson, Jovan Adepo, Denzel Washington, Mykelti Williamson, Saniyya Sidney, Russell Hornsby, Christopher Mele, Leslie Boone, Jason Silvis
Director: Denzel Washington
Writer: August Wilson
Rating: PG-13
Running Time: 133 min.
Synopsis:
Troy Maxson (Denzel Washington) makes his living as a sanitation worker in 1950s Pittsburgh. Maxson once dreamed of becoming a professional baseball player, but was deemed too old when the major leagues began admitting black athletes. Bitter over his missed opportunity, Troy creates further tension in his family when he squashes his son's (Jovan Adepo) chance to meet a college football recruiter

Based on the play this is filmed as if it were a play with but a few actors and only a few different scenes.

Denzel was wonderful and very powerful in his role as were all the other actors but IMO the star of this film is Viola Davis.

95% on Rotten Tomatoes and 77% on MRQE.com

Highly recommended and two thumbs' up....way, way up

Denzel not only starred in but also directed and produced the film. We loved it

We are looking forward to seeing Fences.

Last year The Arizona Theater Company presented this play here in Tucson and it was a very moving production.

Sounds like this movie is well done, too.

IMO she is in the top tier of female Hollywood actors. I thought the movie was fabulous from start to finish and how about the hubris at the end when he went down swinging ---strike three

It had us talking for quite a while after leaving the theater. This one is a must see if you are into character acting

It's next up on our schedule.

I was really impressed by Davis when she was introducing Meryl Streep during the recent Golden Globes. You could tell how bright and professional she is.

Yes, its very much a play on screen. If you don't like lots of talking, not a movie for you.

I'd much rather have to listen to words or read subtitles than sit through car crashes and explosions.

This is your type of movie Jim

When you watch it you can envision it as a stage play

Finally had the time to see Fences this afternoon. This was a powerful movie that must have been an outstanding play. Both Washington and Davis were as good as others have noted. It is really hard to like Denzel's character who is a flawed yet a totally believable human being. Mykelti Williamson as Troy's brother kept things from getting too dark and set up for a surprise ending to the movie. I wonder if that was in the play and how the handled it.
