Well, I did some maintenance on my studer 807 decks last year, resurfaced and adjusted the brakes, deep cleaning and lubrication of tape path, etc. I've moved house and now my main deck doesn't stop automatically at the end of a tape. It actually goes into high speed rewind, madly flailing tape at (what seems like) 1000 rpm... I've ruined 2 tapes, the latest victim a fantastic Beethoven piano trio :-(
I'm guessing the problem originates around the optical/light based system, but I'm not familiar with it. If anyone has an idea what the fix may be, I'd love to hear from anyone who's had a similar problem with these great Studer transports.
