Thread: Is United Home Audio the BEST tape deck there is? Other than $$$, why choose another tape deck?

    Yes, it is around 120 lb and enormous - you do not have a comfortable position to pick it and put it in the hinges of the trolley. I did it once and my back suffered for a few days. Surely two people can do it easily.

    My main problem is that currently I have three A80 decks (one for spares) and two wheeled trolleys ...
    Under construction around a pair of Wilson XLF's and a DCS Vivaldi 2.0 stack.

    ok so you have the A80 with the hinged gimbal suspension...is it not enough that you can tilt it up and back?

    Yes, but only one trolley has the hinged suspension... BTW, the crane is also used for high power amplifiers, particularly tubes - transformers are really heavy. I then use a wheeled service bench in my work area.

    Yes, they are excellent but they are very expensive and as Switzerland is not in the European Union, we still have to pay very high taxes on them. I think we must separate audiophiles, who are essentially amateur sporadic users, from professionals who need another level of consistency and reliability. Including all expenses, a rebuilt A80 capstan motor will cost around 1000 euros.

    better learn to do it yourself then?
    Ive spent the past two years getting aqainted with the A80s......
    reapping, changing bearings, adjusting breakes, tape tension etc....fun and fulfilling.....steep learning curve when fun....
