Release Notes:
This release is for the OPPO UDP-203/205 4K UHD Blu-ray Disc Player.

Special Notice:
1. Once this firmware version is installed on the player, you will not be able to revert back to any previous official or public beta firmware. There will be no problem upgrading to any future official or beta firmware release.
2. For players with firmware version 42-0329 or earlier, please install the UDP20X-45-0605 firmware first. You will then be able to upgrade from version 45-0605 to the latest version, 50-0913.

Comparing to the previous Official release version UDP20X-46-0622, the major changes included in this version are:
• Added support for Roon. The UDP-203 and UDP-205 are now Roon Ready network players.
• Added HDR10 support for the HDMI input. An HDMI In Specs setting has also been added to the Setup Menu.
• Added the Gapless Playback setting in the Setup Menu to set the gapless playback mode for music files.
• Added support for the 21:9 aspect ratio for increased compatibility with 21:9 screen users.
• Improved compatibility with certain models of Seagate hard drives.
• Improved compatibility with Audirvana Plus.
• General fixes and disc compatibility improvements based on recent and upcoming UHD Blu-ray releases as well as user-submitted samples.

did the latest firmware update bring any video quality improvement to the 203?

I am in the market for a 4k player, a few people into this had told me to get the Panasonic UB900, cheaper and has better picture than the Oppo, although the Oppo seems to be built better.

From what I've read, no, not especially.

* Here's what I think: If you have an OLED 4K TV the Sony 800 is only $300 Cdn. The OPPO 203 is $750 Cdn.
And yes the 203 is well built, so is the Sony. And the Sony plays SACDs and DVD-AUDIO discs as well.
If you have a 4K front projector, the Panasonic 900 is an excellent choice.

You look like someone who has a 4K projector...JVC? If you do there are people happy with the Panny 900 mated with HD Fury.

It is just an opinion, mine.

Do you want apps with your new 4K Blu-ray player, the OPPO 203 has none.
If best build is important, the Oppo 203 is @ the top, behind the 205.

You have an Epson projector; it doesn't support Dolby Vision, so one of the top four (there are two 4K players @ number 3 spot) would be a good choice.

For picture quality one of the top four is a good choice, IMO
If money and apps are no concern, the Oppo 203 would be the one I'd buy.

The Oppo 203/205 still has a GOOD bug, I talked to them about this a week ago. Even with this 913 firmware release the Oppo 203/205 does NOT detect Cinavia through the USB 3.0 or 2.0 ports. So you can make a copy of your disc 100% with like MakeMKV and play the movies thru your USB ports without Cinavia detection. I use a 6TB HDD in a USB 3.0 caddy and it's great. Don't even need to use the disc drive. Upscaled to 4K also.

Is that a Dolby Vision LG OLED UHD 4K TV?
The Oppo 203 is very popular with that TV, like if it was made to mate with it.
_____

With front projectors the Panasonic UB900 is a popular choice.

I was confirming what you first saw, the Oppo logo.

* The TV in that latest video is of course a LG OLED 4K Dolby Vision TV.
It's a good video, instructional, very...for people who own LG OLED TVs with Dolby Vision mated with the Oppo 203 4K BR player and Dolby Vision equipped. Good tips on some of its unique and beneficial features.

Just a thought: Today with new technologies and improvements in picture, the newest 4K products including the features and the connections (HDMI 4K cables); they need to cooperate harmoniously between each other. If not you need a PhD in the art of 4K Hand Shaking mastering.
Most regular folks simply want to put the disc in the player and press play.
But you need to set the player first, and know what to do with different discs encoded with HDR or Dolby Vision. There is certainly a learning curve, and only the most addicted take the time to track it.

I find that some experts expect the users to become experts themselves.
In the world of music and movie entertainment the field is a vast horizon ...
