I recently added some subs to my system and they have been playing nonstop for several days. I just got some better replacement wire to hook them up and something is really wrong.

I powered everything down to start swapping in the new wires. After I finished doing the left channel, I checked to make certain that there were no shorts. I used my trusty RShack meter. I checked the binding posts on the subs and a short was indicated. I unhooked the wires going to the sub and retested the +,- on the sub. No short.

Very long story, short (no pun intended) I ended up disconnecting everything, including power cables. When I test for shorts now, the +,- on the only the low frequency posts on both my speakers are shorting, and all of the binding posts on my amp are showing shorts. WTF?

I have two Entreq silver that have been hooked to neg. spkr. posts, and a Tripoint Troy.
Vivid G2 spkrs.
ASR Emitter int. amp.WTF? Please help.

Did you try going back to your old wire?

No Jack. I am too concerned I may make things worse. When I put probes on pos/neg posts on both the amp and speakers, I am showing that they are shorting. This is with no wires.

On what position is your reader? Did you try the buzzer setting? The one that shows continuity? Or did you put on a very high ohm range? On high Ohm range you read something close to 0 depending on the MMeter ... Care to post a picture of the meter and what range you're using? ...

You should not try to measure the amp output. That is not a valid diagnostic test so don't worry about that.

On the speakers, set the meter to ohm (not diode or short test) and measure the speakers. What does it say?

Draw a diagram including the amps model name. That would help a lot.

That isn't very helpful. I've got no idea what's happening. Is there speaker wires there?

Just draw a picture. Make little boxes for each electric component, and draw some red and black lines for the wires. Label whatever you need to.

A wild guess is I'd check continuity on each wire without them hooked up, first.

It was on the buzzer setting. Either shows open or closed.
The only thing you can test with that setting are the speaker wires. Don't try to determine anything with speakers, amps, etc. Those would show "short" even though there is nothing wrong.

+1

Was my suspicion ..reason why I asked those questions.
