These are from 16hz 5-star list which we own:

My favorite test movies are Tron, then LOTR, Underworld. Then the rest. That said, the bass in our home now is far more clear and defined, so i may need to go back and revisit.

The Incredible Hulk (2008)
Live Free or Die Hard(dts)
The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring
The Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King
Tron: Legacy(blu-ray)
Underworld: Awakening
X-Men First Class(blu-ray)
Hellboy II: The Golden Army(blu-ray)
Olympus has Fallen

As the replies are somewhat "all over the place", perhaps the original post should ask the questions in a bit more qualified manner. "Mid-bass" (60-80 hz range) provides that "kick in the chest" feel, while lower frequencies give the pressurization of the listening space. Some of the movies listed excel in only one of these qualities, while some excel at both.

Imo,

Bass heads,

What are your favorite and best movie scenes that show off what subs can do?

I'm curious to hear if you currently have sub/subs, or just looking for demo material?

Woofers take care of frequencies to 40hz( lowest note on a bass guitar),flat response.
SUB woofers are drivers that excel in frequencies below audiblity-20hz as a lot of the movies have large content in the 3-10hz range. Consumer subs that are -20db down at 10hz are really not true subwoofers(those with frequency limiting DSP to prevent bottoming and voice coil damage) IMO

This is another Master List from data-bass forums

This is measured in room response from a microphone that will measure down to 1hz showing detailed information ( you might have to expand it as the far LH side bar is 0hz, 2hz, 4hz increments

To show what you are likely missing out on with subs of limited displacement , notice 3-5hz content IMG_3306.JPG

Holy s-t...now that is cool. a whole lot of 5hz-10hz activity...yeesh. The only commercial standalone sub (only down 10db at 10hz) i can think of is the Paradigm Sub 2. Of course, there is the Evolution Audio MM7s which are -6db at 3hz i believe and basically flat to 6hz, and perhaps Wilson's Thor's Hammer. I think our Velodyne was measured at 86db at 10hz (vs 103db at 20hz) so probably not going to make it to 5hz.

Measured in room microphone response with (16) 15" woofers. From the Red Death dragon crash scene.
There is no replacement for displacement :D

The Data-Bass site has very dedicated members who prize LFE content, and is a great resource for serious discussion of all matters concerning bass reproduction such as EQ, etc.

The Ragnarok film has a moment where the beast breaks through a wall to the left of the viewer while the actors are in a series of cave/catacombs. I thought that side of my house was coming down. Great recommendation!

Daylight (1996 - starring Sylvester Stallone): The tunnel scene. The most intense and lasting...about two minutes constant...warning.
Top Gun (1986 - starring Tom Cruise): The opening scene, the jet's take off, the music score.
Mercury Rising (1998 - starring Bruce Willis): The two trains crossing with Willis between, what a rush!
The Jackal (1997 - starring Bruce Willis): The testing of the machine gun scene in the field, with Jack Black.

The Ragnarok film...

Excellent forum for quite a specialised subject, first time I hear of it. First time I hear of that movie as well.

Indeed, but spl at subsonic frequencies is what separates the men from the boys. Think 132db @10hz in a 34'x28'x16' tall ht room.:)

I always like HEAT , when the bank robbers have a shoot out on the street with police

yeah, that scene is very intense!
also in michael mann's 'collateral', there is a scene where cruise is walking with a briefcase and is approached by 2 local wiseguys in the street who intend to rob him. also very intense scene, the decay and then the silence is deafening.
