The most exciting is surely the 12'th generation of the 38 series of tube integrated amplifiers. In production since 1963, the LX-380 brings the 38 up to date with:

* LECUA discrete volume control that employs resistors for each volume setting
* Cinema Bypass, the processor loop could also be used for placing a room EQ in the signal path.
* Tone Controls Defeat.
* Moving Coil Step-Up transformers for the phono stage.
* Simple remote control for volume & mute.

Chronology

Love the no nonsense Classic designs of the past, these new models should do well at those price points!

David,

You are right for many audiophiles who have reasonably efficient speakers, this could be a terrific solution. I like the fact that LUXMAN are using common output tubes these days, rather than the rare tubes used in earlier designs.

The previous model, the SQ-38u was slightly more powerful and drove the Vivid B1 (89dB) at the Venetian during CES playing a 1/4" 15IPS, two track tape of Thelonius Monk's Brilliant Corners to perfection.

See you in Denver next week ?

warm regards
Philip

20-25watts is the sweet spot for me, those older Luxman's all had a wonderful sound and made great music. I won't be in Denver but will be at CES.

David,

We will have a sample at CES, if you would like to borrow it some evening.

I would love to Philip, it's become nearly impossible to find a musical sounding full function tube integrated these days and I know that there's a market for them, the Chinese offering just don't cut it for me.
