Been Pretty Disappointed with the latest purchased HDTracks downloads sounding too compressed to offer a better value than a CD or vinyl that i could rip to a hard drive. This is appetizing but I am not expecting to sound any better

I got the CDs to play in my car - didn't do the download.

Great stuff! A lot of improvisation on the songs, compared to the very structured studio releases from that time.

I'm sure the hi Rez download is better than the CDs. The recent hi Rez files are much better than the new cd remasters.

Changing the topic a bit, but having heard the Japanese shm CDs of the studio albums, I think those are even better than the hi Rez remasters of the same. The shm disks don't have the details of the new releases, but they have a lot more dynamics. Bonzo hits those drums with A LOT MORE EMOTIONAL intent on the shm than on the audiophile high Rez stuff.

I only have the CD's, but I can make some general observations. 3 of the tracks on the bonus disc are obviously MP3 sourced. Almost all the rest of the tracks have the 19 kHz multiplex carrier signal and a frequency response curve suggesting they were either recorded from the broadcast itself or from a master prepared for FM broadcast. There is relatively little dynamic compression, definitely no peak-limiting.
